What prevents you exercising?

A new study suggests exercising extends your life.

The research tracked 500 people over 50 for more than 20 years, eventually proving that running could save your life from a stadium of ills.

After 19 years, just 15% of the runners had died, compared to 34% of the non-runners.

Results showed running had the following positive effects:

  • slow the rate of heart death,
  • slow the rate of artery complications,
  • lowered rate of deaths from cancer,
  • lowered rate of deaths from neurological disease,
  • lowered rate of deaths from infections and other causes.


The dramatic findings lead Lead author Professor James Fries to claim, "If you had to pick one thing to make people healthier as they age, it would be aerobic exercise"

Regardless of such findings, the reasons many people find for not running will remain. For a wide variet of the population, running is simply not enjoyable or they have no time for it.

There is a running program called couch to 5K (C25K) which slowly introduces you to running, I've done it, it's hard but very rewarding by the end. You can get podcasts so they tell you when to walk and when to run without you having to worry about timing and stuff.

I have vestibular neuronitis. This is an inner ear condition. I spin on a regular basis. I would LOVE to exercise but right now it is more important to be ok to work. If I exercise I end up really dizzy and that means I can't go to work. I work part time because of this condition.

Find a partner and start slow is one way to start or imporve your running. This is how we started and on the 8/8/08 we returned home after running 8 marathons in 8 countries in 8 weeks.

Heat sickness, Fibromyalgia and arthritis. Exercise in a pool is better for most and less stressful for the body. If you jog good one you but never for me.
