Animals affected by Victoria's bushfires

Feb 10 04:26pm

RSPCA shelters and inspectors in Victoria have been working around the clock to provide emergency assistance to animals affected by the bushfires.

Their actions so far include:

  • Inspectors are working with various government departments to provide emergency care to wildlife, companion animals and livestock.
  • They are providing temporary accommodation to animals across Victoria. If your pet needs emergency accommodation - please phone 03 9224 2222.
  • They are delivering emergency pet food to relief centres across Victoria. If you wish to donate items such as pet food, bedding, leads and bowls you can deliver these to your local RSPCA.
  • The RSPCA will be working to reunite lost pets with their families.

If you are from the Bendigo area, the RSPCA Bendigo adoption centre has been closed. This will increase the RSPCA's capacity to provide emergency assistance to animals affected by the bushfires.

To support the RSPCA's emergency relief effort with assistance or a donation, please go to www.rspcavic.org.

Our property in Glenburn was affected.due to roads closures we haven't been able to get up there to check and see if our horses, cows&alpacas made it through the fire. So yesterday we hired a plane and flew over and the animals are alive!! there is hardly any grass however :( Plz open roads asap !!

Our class at primary school is taking up a collection of pet stuff, bandages and bird feed. Kids, ask your teacher to do the same. I can't afford to give money but my dog can give up her spare lead.

Yesterday (Tuesday) two dogs came onto our farm, they were possibly survivers of the Beechworth fire. A male Golden Lab and a female, black fur, possibly a kelpie x. If you know who there owners are please contact the Alpine Shire in Bright. Kelpie x only had a minor leg injury, lab appeared fine.

babi_missloulou - I hope your precious animals continue to survive, and that you can get back there with some feed for all of them. I believe the RSPCA is doing what they can, and I hope they can assist you if your animals need first aid for burns, etc. To others: pls donate to RSPCA Red Cross!

As a pet lover, I pray for those that are wondering around trying to find their owners. I beliece that all animals have their own natural insticts to protect themselves. Lets hope that all creatures are safe and i cry for those that were not so lucky.
Love Jasmine.
