Vet Q&A; A Pain in the Joint

Question

My dog has regular monthly injections of Cartrophen (for a painful joint problem). My vet has said she will probably need to have these injections for the rest of her life. I am wondering if this is necessary as she seems fine now.

Dear Anne
Cartrophen has been found to be a very useful drug in alleviating the symptoms of arthritis in dogs. Most vets adopt an approach of increasing the intervals between injections until a maintenance regime is determined. The majority of dogs need ongoing treatment to manage pain.

I give my dog 1 tablespoon of Natures Way Glucosamine Liquid every night in her meal. You can buy this at any supermarket in the health food section or any chemist. I do suggest you take your dog to the vet for a check up, they may suggest other alternatives as well.

I would try a product called Biobute. It is said to give good pain relief and is just rubbed in. It is all natural. I am sure this will help. Bay.
