Fab fashion blog - clothes confidence

Nov 18 03:55pm

I always talk about clothes in my blog – makes sense really, it is a fashion blog. But, after another shoot during the week it got me to thinking… there is more to fashion than just putting on clothes that work well together (although that can be an ask in itself!) it’s also about attitude and confidence.

Watching the model put on a selection of different outfits and then “work” them in front of the camera it occurred to me with a bit of confidence you can look great – whatever your style.

Naturally, it stands to reason if you feel confident in what you are wearing then you will project that. Right about now, I can hear you saying, ‘Well, duh, of course you’d feel confident if you were a 25-year-old model’ and, to be fair, there is that. What I’m trying to get across however is: The trick is how you wear your clothes. Not how your clothes wear you!

So just hear me out. Every woman knows there are days when you feel fabulous in an outfit. When you strut your stuff in style and the world seems to fall at your feet. But for some reason the next time you put that exact same outfit on, it just doesn’t work. It’s not the clothes that have changed, it’s your mind-set.

With that in mind, we all need to think about how clothes make us feel before we step out of the door and face the world. Clothes that are too tight or ill-fitting, bra straps that fall down, underwear that digs in – all of these things can have us tugging and fussing at an outfit. And that, my friends, does not help anyone exude confidence.

If you’ve put on a bit of weight and those jeans don’t exactly fit comfortably anymore - news flash - don’t wear them! Wait until you’ve shed the extra kilos, otherwise they will be a reminder all day (as they dig into all the wrong places) that you’ve put on some extra weight and you’re not comfortable with it.

The same goes for putting on slobby, loose-fitting attire – how can you feel confident if you look like a slob? Even worse, you’ll be heralding this to the rest of the world. Make a pact with yourself. Only wear clothes that fit well and make you feel confident. If it takes a few extra outfit changes to get it right, believe me it’s worth it.

So my words of wisdom this week are: It’s not what you wear so much, as how you wear it that will make a difference to the most important person in your life – you!
