Poor Jesse Spencer has been left brokenhearted after his ex-love flaunted her tall, dark and handsome new flame in front of him.

The Aussie star of hit show House was reduced to tears on the US set when his former fiancee and co-star Jennifer Morrison appeared with her new man on her arm. The heartless gesture was the ultimate death knell for the pair's relationship.

Jesse and the US actress had initially dated secretly. They announced their engagement, but broke up in August, just weeks before their planned LA wedding.

Melbourne native Jesse, 28, had been frantically trying to breathe life into their relationship in recent months and they'd been seen partying together. But he was astonished to learn it is definitely over.

'Jesse was completely taken aback to discover that Jennifer has a new man and he was visibly shocked when he clapped eyes on the guy,' a set insider says.

'The fact that the guy Jen had with her was a very tall and handsome model-type just added to the obvious pain Jesse suffered after seeing them together.

'He's an emotional guy so it's no surprise that he would take the sighting pretty badly.

'But it's not a question of Jen being brutal either,' the source adds. 'There was no easy way to introduce a new man into her life while she and Jesse are workmates.

'Jesse made the list of the Sexiest Men Alive in a US magazine this year so there's no problem with him moving his love-life on, but it's just been a very tough one for him.'

Ironically, the sensitive former Neighbours star, who shot to fame in Tinseltown in his role as hunky Dr Robert Chase on House, may be seeking an emotional renaissance in the unlikeliest of places.

Twice in the past month he's visited a car dealership and drooled over a bright orange Lamborghini. The supercar, which can reach speeds of 300km/h, is usually the preferred wheels of high-living playboys, but splurging on such a toy might just be the tonic he needs.

'The car isn't really Jesse's style at all,' an insider says. 'But who knows? Maybe it's the best way for him to blow off steam and get on with his life. Everyone who saw his heart breaking that day just wishes him the best and hopes he feels better soon.'
