Farrah Fawcett and Ryan O’Neal nearly got married while she was undergoing cancer treatment in Germany.

The former 'Charlie's Angels' star, whose anal cancer has spread to her liver, and her long-term love were keen to tie the knot but didn’t leave enough time to organise the proposed nuptials.

Family friend Joan Dangerfield said: “They thought about getting married in Germany. They had me check into all the laws to see if that was possible. But we just didn’t get it together in time.”

Although the couple didn’t marry, Farrah’s hairstylist Mela Murphy wouldn’t be shocked if they tied the knot in the near future.

She said: “He is the love of her life and she is the love of his life."

Last month, Ryan admitted he was scared of the prospect of having to live his life without Farrah.

The 68-year-old actor said: "It's a love story. I just don't know how to play this one. I won't know this world without her. Cancer is an insidious enemy."

Farrah, 62, was initially diagnosed with the illness in 2006. Although doctors believed it had been successfully treated, the illness returned in May 2007.
