They’re barely out of nappies, but the kids of the world’s biggest stars are already proving to be Tinseltown’s cute new brat pack.
Hollywood is engaged in a money-is-no-object war, with A-list parents splurging huge amounts of cash to ensure their child is more pampered and well-travelled than anyone else’s.
‘They’re not trying to keep up with the Joneses, they’re keeping up with the Jolie-Pitts and Cruises,’ a Hollywood observer says.
‘It makes for a game of “My child is more fashionable than yours.” Heaven knows what the kids will be like when they hit their teens.’
Indeed, New Idea’s resident psychologist Jo Lamble says the stars are at risk of creating little menaces.
‘Overindulged children suffer later in life because they never learn the concept of what is enough,’ she says.
‘They’re often spoilt, ungrateful and disrespectful, and can develop problems with delayed gratification – they want what they want when they want it.
Adults who have been indulged as children define themselves on what they have, rather than on who they are.
‘Our job as parents is to prepare our kids for adulthood. We need to teach them the value of money and help them set realistic goals. By overindulging your kids, you’ll be sending them into adulthood with a distinct disadvantage.’
But Hollywood’s A-list don’t seem too worried – just look at how they’re spoiling their little ones!
