The 7 Chakras

Dec 05 04:09pm

Chakras are a core belief of yoga, and have been incorporated into many different new age practices. The chakra system was first developed in India in the middle ages. The word "chakra" is a sanskrit word meaning wheel.

The major chakras are located along the spinal column of the body and each is traditionally represented by a different color of the rainbow - starting with red at the bottom up to violet on the crown.

Each chakra location represents different emotions and feelings.

Ideally all the chakras should be balanced - open and spinning at a similar rate to each other. Most of us however have some chakras which are overactive and others that are closed down or underactive.

First Chakra: Root
Colour: Red
Governs survival instincts, physical functions, sense of groundedness
Signs of imbalance include constipation, obesity, leg or knee problems

Second Chakra: Sacral

Governs sexuality, emotion, nurturing instincts, creativity
Signs of imbalance include low-back pain, reproductive issues, bladder or kidney troubles

Third Chakra: Solar Plexus
Colour:
Yellow

Signs of imbalance include ulcers, digestive disorders, liver and gallbladder ailments, diabetes

Fourth Chakra: Heart

Fifth Chakra: Throat
Colour:
Blue

Sixth Chakra: Brow

Seventh Chakra: Crown

A nice article defining the various Chakras. It is amusing to note that the article is captioned as new ideas! Chakra concept is old and has existed in India for several millenia. The article would be better if the original Sanskrit names were mentioned alongside. This knowledge did not originate in middle ages, but is very ancient and has its origins in the Vedas - the holy scriptures of Hindus. Vedas are very ancient and were compiled by Sage Veda Vyasa about 5300 years ago.

I don't know how to read our chakra........but I do believe we can read the universe through our chakras. By having opened and cleared passageways this is possible.

The best way (in my humble opinion) to remove blockages and to open your chakras is two-fold.

1. free your fears - in that I mean recognize what your fears are and then work in freeing them ( generally you will undoubtedly come to realise that the fear is unwarranted)

and 2. consciously choose to love everything and hope f
