Fab fashion blog - Candy colours for confidence

Oct 06 09:00am

"I Want Candy... " or however that song goes.

Actually, I don't really want candy as I'm trying out the new research that suggests if you eat eggs for breakfast (boiled, not fried by the way) then you'll stave off hunger cravings for longer and lose weight (but as my friend pointed out this will only work if you don't eat a chocolate cake for dinner). Whatever!

But believe me it does work - the eggs, not the cake. But then again, facing 2 eggs for brekkie everyday is enough to stave off hunger cravings for a lifetime, so there may be something in that itself. However, I digress.

I am actually talking fashion colours for Summer. Bright, bold candy colours that make your heart sing when you see them. Fuschia, lime, buttercup yellow, tangerine, turquoise... even the names in the colour palette bring a smile to your face.

So there I was, mapping out yet another week's fashion story in the New Idea office and like moths to a flame nearly every girl in the office, at one stage or another, came over to the rack and started poring over the clothes.

Not so unusual you might think, given that girls and clothes are generally like vegemite and toast, what was unusual was that, to a fault, every single one of them absolutely adored the explosion of colour. It didn't seem to matter what hair colour, skin type or figure shape they had, they all appeared extremely taken with the bright, bold array that hung like butterflies on the rack.

That got me thinking. Clothes play such an important part in our everyday life and sadly a lot of the time we overlook that. At times we are too time-poor or just simply too indifferent to think too much about what we wear. More often than not we will grab whatever we see first out of the wardrobe - usually an outfit we've worn before as there is no guesswork involved - pull it on and stride out.

My plea to you then this week, is to think about what you wear and how it will affect your day. Bright colours will automatically give you a lift because, by default, they will make your day seem brighter. Who would have thought it could be that easy. But it stands to reason really - eye-popping, look-at-me flashes of colour teamed with crisp, clean white (if you want to break it up a bit) will put a smile on your face and a spring in your step just by their very nature.

Don't believe me? Try it yourself. Go on, I dare you. Then get back to me and let me know if it works or not.

I would almost guarantee it, but I am wearing black today so I'm not feeling as radiantly confident as I should.

Until next time

Lee-Anne
