The thing is no-one wants to be mutton dressed as lamb - trouble is now they are telling us that mutton is the new lamb - and metallic is the new black. So, in order to put all our minds at ease I thought I'd give you some fail-safe ways to dress your age (in some of the new season trends) and look amazing.
Forever in blue jeans... as the songs goes. Yes just because you are the other side of 40 or even 50 for that matter doesn't mean you have to ditch the denim.
Elle Macpherson took a hammering for wearing a denim mini on a visit to Sydney - much to-do was made about her ageing knees - please if that's all she has to worry about ...!
But that being said, it is best to remember your age and your figure flaws when purchasing any outfit and denim is one of those things that can quickly go from WOW to WOE in a nano second. Don't believe me? Try a short denim all-in-one playsuit - yes, now you get it.

The best thing - denim is enjoying a revamp and there are an array of amazing styles out there that will suit every shape, size and age group. The new high-waisted jeans with a slight flare or slightly wider fit look great and much less "young" than the skinny jean.
Tailored denim jackets, as opposed to the crop biker-style that the 20-somethings favour, are also a great compromise. As is a tailored denim skirt. See, not that hard is it.
Metallics shimmered down the catwalks and looked amazing on the size 6, genetically blessed18-year-old models this season. But how do older complexions and figures deal with this fashion fad? Simply by keeping it understated.

A gold metallic pant-suit will certainly get you noticed, but I'm not sure it would be for the right reasons. Instead, try a soft silver metallic trench or gorgeous pale gold satin top with a pair of tailored pants. If this is still too fashion forward for you, what girl can resist a pretty pair of metallic jewelled sandals or an over-sized tote? You'll still be on-trend without being over-the-top.

Jewel colours will also be seen in all the right places this season but their very nature - bright, attention-grabbing with sleek silhouettes - makes them that little extra difficult to wear for an older age-group. Never fear, where there's a will, there's a way!
Choose a strong coloured blouse (complexion permitting) rather than a neon pink pencil skirt. Or even some sleek black satin pants for evening paired with jewelled tone top. Alternatively a sateen coloured trench looks amazing over a simple black dress. The trick - as always - less is more.
So if you see a fashion trend you love, but can't imagine being able to wear it - don't despair. It's all in the execution and the expertise and that's where I come in. If you're not sure about wearing a particular trend or style simply email me with your issue and I'll do everything in my power to help.
After all, that's what I'm here for.
Until next time
