Flavour it with any of the following:
1 / 2 tsp vanilla extract, almond or brandy essence, 1 / 4 tsp ground cinnamon, 50g grated dark chocolate or 1 tsp finely grated orange rind. On cooling, custard tends to become thick, so stir in extra milk to desired consistency.
1. Combine sugar, egg yolks and cornflour in large bowl. Whisk until thick and creamy.
2. Slowly whisk milk into egg yolk mixture. our mixture into a small saucepan.
3. Cook, whisking, over a low to medium eat, until custard thickens. Do not boil.
4. Transfer custard to bowl. Stir in flavouring.
