Supermodel Elle Macpherson is planning to leave England and move back to Australia for the sake of her two children
- even though it may mean an end to her steamy romance with rocker Bryan Adams.
Elle, nicknamed The Body, is caught up in the middle of a bitter custody battle with her ex-lover Arki Busson over their two sons, Flynn, 10, and Cy, five. The finance tycoon wants to have the boys with him to spend their holidays in New York, where he's now hanging out most of the time with his gorgeous girlfriend, actress Uma Thurman.
'Elle doesn't believe New York is a safe place for her children, even if it's only a couple of weeks at a time,' a family insider says.
'And the fact that Uma has been stalked by a crazed fan who's threatened her kids scares the hell out of Elle.
'She wants to keep her sons as far away from the potential dangers in that city as possible and, by moving back to Australia, it will be more difficult for Arki to take them there,' the source adds.
The 44-year-old beauty has been nervously watching developments of the chilling trial in Manhattan of Uma's creepy stalker Jack Jordan, who sent a frightening email to the Kill Bill star that read: 'If a voice tells you to kill a child, maybe you should ignore it.'
Deranged Jordan was found guilty last week but may only face up to a year in jail. Then he'd be free to resume stalking Uma, who has two kids, Maya, nine, and Levon, six, with ex-husband actor Ethan Hawke.
'Elle will be terrified to have her kids in the Big Apple, staying with Uma and Arki, when that maniac is free,' the insider adds.
Elle, who calls herself an earth mother, has put her $17 million mansion in West London's Notting Hill on the market and is said to be seeking out a surfside paradise near Sydney where she can settle.
The statuesque stunner spent a laid-back Christmas 2007 with her two children on the Northern Beaches, soaking up the sun and taking surf lessons from former champion Rusty Miller.
'Elle has had enough of living in London anyway,' a friend says. 'She finds it too busy and has decided she wants a more simple life for her family in Australia.'
She has lived in England for the past 10 years and runs her successful lingerie business, Intimates, from her seven-storey home, which has a gym, a swimming pool, and even a ballroom for entertaining.
Elle, who also has an oceanfront home in the Bahamas, only moved into the house two years ago following her bitter split from Arki. But the source says: 'Estate agents have been around, and auctioneers have been in to value the furniture.'
The biggest difficulty Elle had in making her decision to leave London was whether she'd be destroying her passionate relationship with hunky Canadian-born Bryan, 48.
The couple have been dating on and off for the past year and she was recently spotted sneaking into his London home.
A friend reveals: 'Love has always been important in Elle's life, but her children are far more important.'
