Eva Longoria: 'I love being a housewife'

May 09 02:10am
Life's pretty rosy for Eva Longoria Parker. Last year she married the man of her dreams, basketballer Tony Parker, she stars in the hit TV show Desperate Housewives and she's just realised her dream of opening a restaurant in LA. New Idea caught up with the 33-year-old, who finally clears up those pregnancy rumours.

How's married life?

It's good, it's great. With the writers' strike, I was home a lot so Tony loved that. I've really enjoyed being home, just being a housewife, cooking and taking care of him. I was Miss Domestic.

So you're a real-life housewife?

I'm definitely a domestic housewife, yes. I sew a lot too. I was in my trailer once sewing some Halloween costumes and one of the producers said: 'Did you get wardrobe to make that?' I was like: 'I sewed it!'

It seems you can do no wrong!

I can - just ask Tony! He'd say that I kiss him too much and that I cook too much because he's gaining weight too.

So you're a good cook?

I can cook anything Mexican, but outside that I've been cooking a lot of French food. I think if you can read, you can cook.

Where did the pregnancy rumours come from?

Victoria Beckham gave me a couple of pairs of her jeans and I love them, they're my favourite. They were so tight on me, but I was like: 'I'm wearing them anyway.' So my gut was hanging over the top even before I ate dinner. Then we came out of the restaurant and I was totally bloated - and now I have a baby bump!

Are you pregnant?

I'm not pregnant. If I was, I'd yell it from the highest mountain. It's like when you're dating, people say: 'When are you getting married?' Then it's like: ‘When's the baby?' Then you have a baby and it's: 'When's the divorce?' It's the cycle - I'm glad I'm in the baby phase right now!

Did the show's creator Marc Cherry ban you from getting pregnant?

He said that in his speech at the wedding! Marc's crazy; he wants me to have babies in year seven.

Do you ever read your script and think: 'Oh my God...'?

Every day! I'm usually scared to open the script because I know it's going to be something crazy and wild and fun.

But I have total faith in the writers.

Are you close to your co-stars when the cameras stop rolling?

We met five years ago when we did the pilot and we were all at different stages. I was single, Marcia [Cross] was single, Nicollette [Sheridan] was engaged to somebody else. And now Marcia's married and has two kids, I'm married, Nicollette's engaged...

So who's your favourite co-star?

[Laughs] I'm working with one of my favourites today, Felicity. I love her.
