Whitney's bodyguard is back

Apr 22 03:11pm

Almost two decades ago songstress Whitney Houston shot to movie stardom in The Bodyguard, dramatically rescued by her on-screen lover Kevin Costner.

The pair simmered sensationally in one of the first interracial love stories ever to hit the silver screen.

Now after a 16-year friendship that's endured turbulent times, he's once again by her side, pulling her back from the brink of ruin to salvage her career.

Kevin gave his support to the 44-year-old by appearing with her at the Celebrity Fight Night charity event in Arizona recently.
Whitney looked stunning in a red low-cut gown set off by diamond jewellery, with Kevin gallantly supporting her by the waist and even the elbow.

The photos of Whitney looking glamorous - and healthy - are
a clear indication the singer has finally triumphed over her well-documented troubles.

In the past she looked skeletal, distracted and edgy, and even confessed to drug and alcohol problems. But she never admitted to what her pals suspected - that she had anorexia or bulimia.

These pictures confirm that Kevin, a long-term friend, has played a vital role in her recovery.

One friend says: 'Whitney's been through a tremendous amount over the past few years - divorce, custody battles and problems with drugs. But she's never been happier than she is at the moment. She has custody of her daughter and a new album coming out in November. And it's Kevin who has helped her do it.'

Nicknamed The Voice, Whitney's one of the world's most successful vocalists. With The Bodyguard the bestselling soundtrack of all time and it's track I Will Always Love You, the bestselling single by a female artist.

But her image and personal life suffered after she married singer Bobby Brown in 1992. He was always in trouble and was even charged with battery for allegedly hitting his wife.

Whitney, meanwhile, had her own personal traumas. She was often hours late for interviews, cancelled concerts at the last minute and was even fired from performing at the Oscars by her friend Burt Bacharach.

In 2001 she hit rock bottom, when pictures of her emaciated frame appeared after a Michael Jackson tribute performance.

But after two rehab treatments Whitney appeared determined
to get her life back on track.

She divorced Bobby in 2006 and gained full custody of their daughter Bobbi Kristina, 15.

Now she's poised to launch, what's predicted will be her most successful album in years.
