Instead of getting mad when your little one refuses to clean up their room, try singing or using a funny voice when asking them to do something. It's a lot more fun to use a silly voice, or a different character that it diffuses tension, making the situation a lot less stressful, while still setting limits and establishing discipline.

That used to work with me when I was a kid---until I was 7 years old and then one day, I said to my mother " Why don't you act your age, you dumb broad! " and then it wasn't funny anymore, as she then got tough and made me clean my room and hers.
