Clare On Air: My Latest Obsession

By Clare Rigden

I write this week's blog off the back of a mammoth two-hour session searching Jonathan Rhys Meyers on Yahoo!7 Search.

I know I probably shouldn't admit to wasting valuable company time wikipedia-ing dishy Irish actors, but in this case I'm pretty sure I'm off the hook.

You see, I'm not the only one in the office obsessed - in fact, I could go so far as to say my editor has actively been encouraging my cyber stalking.

It all started a few weeks back when preview copies of Showcase's new period drama The Tudors arrived on my desk.

Don't get me wrong, I love a good costume romp, but I've had so much to watch these past few weeks, that these discs kept getting pushed to the back of my desk. But while I was buried under mounds of Grey's and Law and Order discs, others in the office were madly ploughing their way through the series and buzzing about how good Jonathan looks in a pair of knickerbockers, doublet and long socks.

And now everyone's gone JRM mad!

Our Travel Editor Andrea thinks he's got mad, crazy "stalker eyes", and is about the only one who's not jumping onboard the obsession bandwagon. But I happen to agree with my editor - he's an absolute dreamboat. And to prove my dedication I've been looking up pictures of him on Getty images, lovingly printing out photos of him and cutting them out to stick on my wall.

Stalker much?
Hmm..

Anyway, his portrayal of Henry VIII is absolutely brilliant. For those of you that don't have Foxtel, don't worry, I'm pretty sure it's coming out on DVD soon - and trust me, you're going to want to get your hands on a copy.

Back on free-to-air, another obsession in the New Idea offices is So You Think You Can Dance. We've all got our fave contestants.

Mine are Demi and Sermsah - I can't wait to see how they go. Beauty Editor Chelsea loves Anthony even if he is "a bit tall and gangly". As I write she's beside herself with excitement, because tonight she's off to a live taping of the show, so no doubt she'll have stories aplenty to share.

Another show we're all a teensy bit into is Underbelly. Who knew Les Hill was such a great actor? He's just one of the many reasons we're tuning into the show each week. So, SO good (sorry Melbourne readers - hopefully you'll get to see it soon.)

Anyway, that's about it from me for this week. I've got to get back to my Jonathan "research".

If there's a show that you absolutely cannot get enough of at the moment, why not drop us a line and let us know?

I hope it does hit DVD here soon, I got hooked on it when I was in England and would love to see what I missed out on.
