Ricotta
218kJ, 3.9g fat
Ricotta has one of the lowest fat and kilojoule contents. "In general, white cheeses are lower in fat than yellow cheeses," advises dietitian Melanie McGrice**.
Bocconcini
386kJ, 6.9g fat
It means "little mouthfuls" in Italian and, with a higher protein content than most, it's one cheese where less will keep you fuller for longer.
Mozzarella
387kJ, 7g fat
Use fresh mozzarella instead of grated tasty cheese for your pizza topping - it's 40 per cent lower in artery-clogging saturated fat (although still high in fat overall).
Fetta
408kJ, 8.4g fat*
While fetta has fewer kilojoules than most reduced-fat cheddars, it still contains quite high levels of sodium.
Brie
459kJ, 9.6g fat
While a 30g wedge contains more fat than two chocolate mint slice biscuits, it's still slightly less fatty than cheddar and blue - and its rind is rich in energy-boosting vitamin B1.
Blue cheese
469kJ, 9.8g fat
Just a matchbox-sized chunk of blue vein has more fat than a single serve of McDonald's hot fudge sundae.
Swiss
477kJ, 8.3g fat
Swiss cheese is relatively high in fat, but if you can't resist, console yourself with the fact that at least it's comparatively high in calcium.
Cheddar
503kJ, 9.9g fat
This is one of the fattiest cheeses (with 30g accounting for a seventh of your daily recommended fat intake), so always opt for reduced-fat versions, which can contain up to 75 per cent less fat.
