Celebrity make-up artist Napoleon Perdis has branched out into skincare with a simple yet effective line to complement his make-up range. We sit down with him to discover more about his new range and the secrets to achieving a flawless face every time.
What is the philosophy behind your new skincare line?
I have always been interested in skincare and over the last few years, have been immersed with the development of my Auto Pilot Step 1-2-3 skincare regime. I wanted create a simple, easy to use regime that delivered benefits for healthy, hydrated skin – essential for a great base for make-up. The formulas of the Cleanser, Destresser and Moisturiser work in synergy to hydrate and detoxify the skin fast through the use of enhanced Japanese water filtration technology.
Who is it suitable for?
My Auto Pilot Step 1-2-3 skincare regime is suitable for all ages and skin types. It is an easy to use, simple routine that uses pure elements essential for skincare.
What is the hero product of your new range?
Step 2 – Toner and Destresser, is not only my favourite product in the range, but the most unique to market. Most toners are very astringent and strip the skin where as Step 2 is all about destressing the skin, taking time out for your skin to soak in all the amazing nutrients like Japanese Rice Bran Extract to calm, soothe and hydrate skin.
I also love using Step 2 for an intense hydrating mask – perfect for traveling. Simply double the amount of product you normally use and wash it off after five minutes. Also, try applying Step 2 on top of your makeup through out the day for an instant boost of hydration to refresh the skin.
The glowing complexion isn't just about foundation. Could you please describe the steps you'd take to creating a flawless base?
A flawless face starts with clean beautiful skin, so it's essential to remove makeup, cleanse, destress and moisturize everyday. Give your face a soft massage before you apply your makeup – a mini massage will wake up your skin.
Then, depending on your skin type, pick and choose from products from my Auto Pilot capsule collection so that your skin is hydrated and radiant. For example, if you have dry skin would use my Dream Cream and my Eye Spy around the eye area for extra hydration followed by my Auto Pilot Primer. But, if you had oilier skin you would use my Pore Minimizer and Mattifier to keep oil at bay and the Primer.
From there, apply a concealer and foundation with a brush. You will find the finish with a brush will be smoother and you not waste as much product. And my number one tip with foundation is no foundation on the forehead unless you're trying to conceal!
Once we've laid the foundations, what's the fastest way to apply the rest of your make-up?
It's all about keeping it simple. I always tell women to do mascara first as you can stop and assess how you want the rest of your look to be for your mood. For example, you may just do mascara and think that's nearly enough and you can just put on some lip-gloss and be off. Other times you may want to go a step further and create an eye story or use some bronzer or lipstick.
A really fast way to apply your makeup in the bathroom or in the office is to work with my new philosophy of 'Napoleon Perdis To Go'. It is about every woman being able to achieve a range of looks in three easy steps. You can get a flawless look with my Auto Pilot Pre-Foundation Primer, Long Black Mascara and Palette Patrol. The Palette Patrol provides the essential elements for lips, cheeks and eyes in a compact.
What can we do to help our make-up last throughout the day?
Women struggle with the perfect application and achieving a flawless lasting look because they forget one vital step – primer. Always use my Auto Pilot Pre Foundation Primer because not to prime is a crime! I swear by my primer because it creates a perfect canvas for your foundation to adhere to. For touch ups throughout the day use Camera Finish, a three in one foundation that sets makeup and even try a little of Step 2 – Destresser to reactivate the properties in you skin care to hydrate and refresh your look.
