Introducing Bim Kenesis

Isolated from the east coast fashion hubs of Sydney and Melbourne, one Perth designer is finding her inspiration and doing something a little different.

Set apart by its inventive take on feminine charm and cool aesthetic, Perth-based label Bim Kenesis is fast becoming a secret handshake amongst those in the know.

"Bim Kenesis is fashion forward but also wearable," says designer Bree Kiddey, who created the label after completing her fashion degree at Curtin University.

The label is inspired by Kiddey's love of music, art, movies and any of her current obsessions. "At the moment I am interested in marching bands and memorabilia, beauty packaging, Bianca Jagger, Chloë Sevigny, street photography, silent moments and sketchy line drawing," she lists.

The result of these diverse influences? Exclusive prints, intricate cuts and clever designs to create garments that are edgy and fun.

"The Bim Kenesis girl is someone who wants to stand out from the crowd and use her wardrobe as a reflection of herself," declares Kiddey. "She would hate to be caught out wearing the same thing as someone else."

Each story-based collection is characterized by thoughtful details, prints and amusing names. The label's Spring/Summer 07/08 collection, 'The Sarsaparilla Gang', draws inspiration from 1930s gangster flicks, bumbling crooks, and seductive songstresses and includes exclusive art-deco inspired prints and thoughtful geometric detailing.

"I wanted to ensure that each piece was a signature garment so pieces include feminine frills, cutouts, reversible details and original shapes," explains Kiddey.

With her eye on growing in the Australian market and even expanding internationally in 2008, Bim Kenesis is one label to watch.
