Designer Profile: Margherita Maccapani Missoni

Apr 27 05:36pm

Granddaughter of Ottavio and Rosita, Margherita embodies the image of the Missoni style world-wide with her personality and her taste in fashion, and is also a successful ambassador of the family brand.

She has travelled for Missoni, given interviews, worked as a model for a number of fashion publications (Vogue, Elle, Harpers Bazaar, Marie Claire, Instyle), and posed for portraits by celebrated photographers like Mario Testino, David Bailey, Gilles Bensimon, Mert Alas & Marcus Piggot, Patrick Demarchelier, Walter Chin, Enrique Badulescu and others that have helped make her one of the world's 100 most beautiful women in the list drawn up by Harper's & Queen magazine.

Her willingness and talent for social encounters and relationships soon spilled over into a contribution on the level of ideas, in her active participation in the creation of new projects and products. And she has turned this job into a valuable tool for personal growth, training and professional achievement.

Together with the Estée Lauder specialists, Margherita worked on the "Missoni" scent, launched in 2006. And she also provided her image for the campaign by the photographers Mert & Marcus. On the heels of that success, Margherita also appears in a campaign by Mert & Marcus as spokeswoman for the new Missoni "Acqua", the second fragrance she has "designed" flanked by the Estée Lauder maîtres parfumiers, which has been launched between June and July 2007.

Born in 1983, Margherita has been living in New York for the last four years and attended Stella Adler acting school for a brief period and Lee Strasberg Theatre Institute for more than a year. She's currently training at Black Nexxus with Susan Batson.

Her number one dream is to grow in her profession as an actress, to perform on both set and stage. Already in 2006 she starred, together with Mariacarla Boscono, in a noted play, Jean Genet's The Maids (Les Bonnes), produced by Lee Strasberg at The Marilyn Monroe Theatre. Plus she took part in various short movies including Traffic Jam by Francesco Carrozzini, the documentary for the Exhibition L'Arte e le Donne by Giuseppe Testori, playing the role of a modern Frida Kahlo, and recently the short movie I'm an island by Jennifer De Lia, which will be screened during the upcoming Cannes Film Festival as out of competition feature. She's just done the documentary White Drugs by Alia Reza and the play 20% Organic by Ted Slubersky.

Margherita's passion and dedication to the theatre has not kept her from cultivating numerous other interests. A philosophy student at the University of Milan, she has also attended Spanish language courses at the University of Barcelona and philosophy seminars at Columbia University in New York.

Her taste and lifestyle have become a reference and an inspiration for Missoni fashion and for the collections created by her mother Angela.
