What is Flickr?

Flickr is the best way to store, sort, search and share your photos online. Flickr helps you organize that huge mass of photos you have and offers a way for you and your friends and family to tell stories about them.

You can set up a free Flickr account. When you have a free Flickr account, you can upload 100MB worth of photos each calendar month. This is a bandwidth limit, and not an amount of space that you have on Flickr servers.



How do I become a Flickr member?

To upload images to Flickr you will need to first, create a Flickr account. To create an account, go to the Flickr Homepage and click on the 'Create your Account' button.

If you have a Yahoo! ID (the one you use to sign-in for Yahoo! mail or Yahoo! Messenger) you can use it to sign in. If you do not have a Yahoo! ID, you must sign up for one by clicking on the Yahoo! ID sign up button at the bottom left of the screen.



On the Yahoo! ID sign up page, fill out your details and click the 'Create My Account' button.

On the next page, make sure your details are correct and click the 'Continue' button.

Now you are signed into Flickr. You will be asked to Create a New Account or Merge an old one. Choose your screen name and then click the 'Create a New Account' button.





How do I upload images to your Flickr account?

Flickr provides a range of different ways to upload photos to your Flickr account. The most popular way is to use the Flickr web form to upload your images. To use this form, look in the navigation menu in Flickr under 'You' or sign into Flickr and go to this photo upload link. Now just follow the easy step by step instructions to uploading your photos.

Flickr also provides a range of uploading tools for both Windows and Mac that will help you get your photos on Flickr.

You can also email your photos to your Flickr account. You have your own unique email address that you can use to add your photos to your Flickr photostream or to upload photos to your Flickr photostream AND automatically post them to your blog. Configure your email upload settings here.



How do I upload my images to the My Australia - Holidays Flickr group?

Do you want to upload your images to the My Australia - Holidays group and have them feature on the My Australia homepage? You first need to join the My Australia - Holidays group because only group members can contribute to the group photo pool.

To join the My Australia - Holidays group go to the My Australia - Holidays group Flickr page here. If you haven't joined this group a link 'Join this group' will appear to the right of the screen. Click this link. You will be taken to a confirmation page. Click confirm and now you are a part of the My Australia - Holidays Flickr group.

The easiest way add a photo to a group is to go to the page of the photo you want to submit to the group. On that page, click the 'Send to Group' button between the photo title and the photo. Then in the dropdown menu choose the group you want to send it to, and you're done!
