Australians are the second-highest producers of waste in the world, with only the US churning out more rubbish per capita than we do. So, if you haven’t joined a Local Energy Trading System (LETS) group yet, it’s time to get in on the action. LETS groups are not-for-profit community organisations that swap goods or services – this is called ‘freecycling’.

Freecycling is all about giving away goods you don’t want and receiving things in return. LETS members meet regularly to trade, or share info, and it’s a great way to increase community involvement as well as encourage re-use and recycling. Freecycling is catching on worldwide and there are plenty of good reasons why. This community-based initiative is helping to reduce landfill, which means less CO2 emissions and more space around your home. For more info, visit www.lets.org.au and www.freecycle.org.au
