We all love a great success story and Sean Holbrook's is a stand-out. He has overcome fears of failure and humiliation on national TV to lose a stunning 60-plus kilos on The Biggest Loser, turning his type 2 diabetes around and winning the admiration of his kids and viewers alike in the process.
He certainly won our hearts when our team interviewed and photographed him (see page 16 of the magazine) and we hope his fondest wish of finding someone to share his life with is soon fulfilled. What's not to love?
On another note, we all know temperatures are dropping and, with all those nasty bugs just waiting to crash-tackle you, it's important to keep your immune system strong - diabetes does make you more vulnerable to infection. Our 20 ways to stay well this winter is designed to set you off to a flying start and adding some exercise to the mix will help you even more, especially if you don't even have to go outside. We've come up with a lounge room work-out with a difference - all the exercises are inspired by our TV heroes and you can watch the box while you do 'em!
Feeling stressed? Staying cool and buttoning your lip may convince the world you are calm and unruffled but it won't fool your body, take it from me. A mere whiff of worry is all it takes to send my blood glucose level skyrocketing - just another diabetes side effect to manage! Understanding why this happens and how best to deal with it has opened my eyes and, hopefully, our story Don't worry, be happy, will help you, too.
With the year-round availability of many fruits and vegetables, we sometimes need reminding that seasonal produce is not only cheaper but more nutritious, too - two great reasons to try our ravishing recipes for seasonal apples and pumpkins.
We are here to help so take a leaf out of Sean's book and inspire yourself this issue with wonderful new food flavours, better health and fitness to live life to the full. You'll be amazed at the difference a few small changes makes.
