HELPING TO GIVE GUIDE DOGS A GOOD START

Apr 01 12:58pm

Merial (the makers of FRONTLINE PLUS® and HEARTGARD30®) is proud to support Guide Dogs Australia by providing both free and subsidised parasite control products to all Guide Dogs and Guide Dogs in training.

The significant investment required to train a Guide Dog, makes it vital that these dogs remain healthy and alert during their training.

FRONTLINE PLUS and HEARTGARD30 help Guide Dogs to avoid the distractions and health problems associated with fleas, ticks and heartworm while completing their training.

A potential Guide Dog spends the first year of its life being exposed to crowds and different environments to check it has a suitable personality and abilities to be successful as a working Guide Dog. The dog then goes on to learn over 30 different commands before being placed with its vision impaired handler.

The whole training process takes about 18 months and is very expensive, usually at a cost of $25,000. After successfully completing the training, a Guide Dog will remain in work for an average of 8-10 years.

These valuable animals play an extremely important role in improving the mobility and confidence of people with vision impairments.
