In order to give your tree the best chance of success it is important that you take the time to plant it correctly.

Here’s how
Step 1 First prepare a hole that is at least twice the size of the tree’s existing pot or its root ball. This is important as the roots will quickly grow out into the loose soil. Gently lower the plant into the hole. Make sure the top of the soil from the pot is level with the top of the planting hole.

Step 2 Gently back-fill around the root ball. You may wish to improve the soil you put
back in by blending through well-rotted compost or manure. It is also good practice to add a couple of handfuls of pre-soaked water crystals at this stage.

Step 3 Stake the tree with a minimum of 2 stakes. Make sure you tie the tree off gently – don’t strangle it. A little movement is good as this allows the tree to develop strong reaction wood.

Step 4 Apply a diluted solution of a seaweed tonic, such as Yates Nature’s Way Seaweed Booster Concentrate, before watering in. And don’t forget to mulch well. Make sure the
mulch isn’t pushed up against the trunk.
