Gather your supplies
1 ball in each of 3 or 4 colours Cleckheaton Machinewash 8 ply (50g balls); 4.00mm crochet hook or the required size to give correct tension; 30cm square cushion insert; fabric for cushion back; wool needle for sewing seams.

Tension: Motif measures 7cm square.

Motif: Make a total of 16, varying the order of the colours.
Using 4.00mm crochet hook and colour 1, make 4ch, join with a sl st to form a ring.
1st Round: 1ch, 8dc in ring, sl st in first dc.
2nd Round: 1ch, 2dc in same place as sl st, 2dc in each dc to end, using colour 2 sl st in first dc.
3rd Round: 3ch, 1tr in each of next 2dc, * (1tr, 2dtr, 1tr) in next dc, 1tr in each of next 3dc, rep from * to last dc, (1tr, 2dtr, 1tr) in last dc, sl st in top of turning ch.
4th Round: Using colour 3 sl st in sp before first tr, 2ch, (1htr in sp before next st) 3 times, * 3htr in sp before next st, (1htr in sp before next st) 6 times, rep from * twice, 3htr in sp before next st, (1htr in sp before next st) twice, sl st in 2nd ch at beg.
5th Round: 2ch, 1htr in each of next 4 sts, * 3htr in next st, 1htr in each of next 8 sts, rep from * to last 4 sts, 3htr in next st, 1htr in each of next 3 sts, sl st in 2nd ch at beg.
Fasten off.

To make up: Join motifs together to form a square. With right sides together, sew the crochet square to backing fabric around three sides. Turn right side out. Insert cushion. Sewing opening closed.
