Cushions: A and B 35cm square


Gather your supplies
30 balls (throw), 9 balls (cushion A) and 9 balls (cushion B) of Totem 8 ply (50g balls); 7 balls (throw), 2 balls (cushion A) and 1 ball (cushion B) of Feathers (50g balls); 3 balls (throw) and 1 (cushion A) balls of Ostrich (50g balls); 1 pair each 7.00mm (No 2) and 4.00mm (No 8) knitting needles or sizes needed to give correct tension; wool needle for sewing seams; 50cm cushion insert (cushions A and B)

Tension: 26 sts and 44 rows to 10 cm over patt, using 4.00mm needles and 8 Ply. To work tension square, use 4.00mm needles and 8 Ply, cast on 39 sts. Work 66 rows patt as for Throw Rug. Cast off loosely.

Throw rug
Using 4.00mm needles and Totem 8 Ply, cast on 261 sts (if this number of sts does not fit comfortably on needles, use a circular needle).
Beg patt:
1st row (right side): Knit.
2nd row: Knit.
3rd row: K1, * sl 1 purlways, K1, rep from * to end.
4th row: K1, * yft, sl 1 purlways, ybk, K1, rep from * to end.
Rows 1 to 4 incl form patt.
Cont in patt until work measures approx 140cm from beg, ending with a 2nd row.
Cast off loosely.

Border: Using 7.00mm needles and 1 strand each of Ostrich and Feathers tog, cast on 2 sts.
1st row: Knit into front and back of first st, K1... 3 sts
2nd row: P2, purl into front and back of last st... 4 sts.
3rd row: Knit into front and back of first st, K3... 5 sts.
4th row: P4, purl into front and back of last st... 6 sts.

Note: When changing colours in centre of row, twist the colour to be used underneath and to the right of the colour just used, making sure yarns are worked firmly at joins.

5th row: Using 2 strands of Feathers tog, knit into front and back of first st, using 1 strand of Ostrich and Feathers tog, K5... 7 sts.
6th row: Using 1 strand each of Ostrich and Feathers tog, P6, using 2 strands of Feathers tog, purl into front and back of last st... 8 sts.
7th row: Using 2 strands of Feathers tog, knit into front and back of first st, K1, using 1 strand each of Ostrich and Feathers tog, K6... 9 sts.
8th row: Using 1 strand each of Ostrich and Feathers tog, P6, using 2 strands of Feathers tog, P2, purl into the front and back of last st... 10 sts.

Beg stripe patt:
1st row: Using 2 strands of Feathers tog, K4, using 1 strand each of Ostrich and Feathers tog, K6.
2nd row: Using 1 strand each of Ostrich and Feathers tog, P6, using 2 strands of Feathers tog, P4.
Last 2 rows form stripe patt.
Cont in patt until the shortest edge (2 strands of Feathers tog), fits (slightly stretched) evenly along one edge of Throw Rug ending with a 2nd row.

Beg dec:
1st row: Using 2 strands of Feathers tog, K2tog, K2, using 1 strand each of Ostrich and Feathers tog, K6... 9 sts.
2nd row: Using 1 strand each of Ostrich and Feathers tog, P6, using 2 strands of Feathers tog, P1, P2tog... 8 sts.
3rd row: Using 2 strands of Feathers tog, K2tog, using 1 strand each of Ostrich and Feathers tog, K6... 7 sts.
4th row: Using 1 strand each of Ostrich and Feathers tog, P5, P2tog... 6 sts.
Using 1 strand each of Ostrich and Feathers tog for rem, cont to dec as before until 2 sts rem.
Cast off.
Rep border for three rem sides of Throw Rug.


To make up: Do not press. Using wool needle sew in all ends. Using a flat seam and 8 ply sew borders to sides of Throw rug. Join mitred corners.


Cushion A
Back and front (make 2 pieces)
Using 4.00mm needles and 8 ply, cast on 79 sts.
Work in patt as for Throw Rug until work measures approx 30 cm from beg, ending with a 2nd row.
Cast off.

Border: Work as for border of Throw rug, noting that shortest edge (2 strands of Feathers tog) should fit (slightly stretched) along one edge of Back and Front.

To make up:Do not press. Using wool needle sew in all ends. Using a flat seam and 8ply, join back and front pieces tog, leaving an opening for insert. Insert cushion and close opening. Using a flat seam and 8 ply, join borders to sides of cushion. Join mitred corners.


Cushion B
Back and front (make 2 pieces)
Using 4.00mm needles and 8 ply, cast on 79 sts.
Work in patt as for Throw rug until work measures approx 30 cm from beg, ending with a 2nd row.
Cast off.

To make up: Do not press. Using wool needle sew in all ends. Using a flat seam and 8 ply, join back and front pieces tog, leaving opening for insert. Insert cushion and close opening. Using Feathers, make 4 tassels. Using Feathers work Chain stitch (see below) along seams. Attach a tassel to each corner.
