You can take a kitten home at 10-12 weeks, when it’s toilet-trained and eating food. Don’t make any sudden changes to its diet and stick to kitten food until it’s 10 months old. Cats and kittens can’t digest cow’s milk, so feed them a low-lactose pet formula. Interaction is important. Kittens love to play, so I say 20 minutes a day is compulsory. Brushing with a mitt or a brush helps bonding. Domestic cats mirror the actions of their wild big cousins, from playing to growling and eating. All cats shun the cold and they love warmth. You’ll need a litter tray (with lid) and food and water bowls (glazed ceramic is best). Include bones in its diet – chicken necks are ideal. Your vet can advise on worming and vaccination.
