When you spend time nurturing and loving your home, the more beautiful it becomes. Your beauty is exactly the same. By indulging your feminine side, you’re sure to feel wonderful. Irrespective of your age, shape, size or personality, beauty is yours to be experienced, explored and enjoyed. Now is the time to begin pampering yourself on a regular basis and to allow your goddess to shine from within.
State of mind
Beauty is subjective, and how you view it plays an integral part in how you do or don’t look after yourself. If you think beauty is about perfect skin or flawless make-up, it will seem unattainable or, at the very least, a time-consuming and expensive objective. But if you love soaking in a fragrant bath or painting your nails, you’re already enjoying yourself and your beauty.
New beginnings
A new year is an opportunity to take a fresh approach to your self-care, and to begin scheduling time for doing things that make you feel gorgeous. It’s about using skin-care products to keep your skin in a healthy condition, and applying make-up to enhance or highlight your best features. Just remember, it’s not the products that make you beautiful, their function is to serve you and help you feel great about yourself.
Start the ball rolling
Ask yourself the question: ‘What do I need to do on a regular basis in order to look and feel great?’ Do your feet need a good soak, does your face need to be rejuvenated with a mask, or does your body need a relaxing bath? If you’re having trouble coming up with the answers, it just shows you’re out of practice when it comes to taking care of yourself. Don’t worry, we have plenty of ideas for you! And, the more you consider the possibilities, the more you’ll become motivated to actually do something about it.
Do not disturb
Have a weekly mini facial To brighten your complexion, first cleanse your skin, then use
a gentle facial scrub to give it a deeper cleanse and to remove surface dryness. Apply a mask – be generous – and relax for 20 minutes so it can do its work. Spend the time in a fragrant bath or reading a great novel. And don’t forget to put up your ‘Do not disturb’ sign.
Pamper your deserving feet
Fill a basin with warm water, add bubble bath and soak your feet. Use a foot file to remove rough, dead skin, and follow it with a body scrub to give your feet a smoother finish. Trim and tidy your nails. Paint your toenails. Apply a foot balm to keep your feet soft.
Add shine to your hair
Once a week, when you wash your hair, allow yourself 20 minutes to give your hair a conditioning treatment. Whether you have short, long or coloured hair, a regular treatment suited to your hair type and its condition will give it extra shine. After applying a treatment, wrap your hair in a towel and use the waiting time to apply a face mask or relax in a bath. Your hair and skin will feel better as a result.
Private moments
Enjoy a time-out The simple act of taking 5-10 minutes to stop and be still takes no effort at all, but the rewards, both physical and mental, are wonderful. A time-out helps you to become grounded and calm. It may not sound like a conventional beauty tip, but don’t underestimate the power of your mind. The calmer you feel, the more radiant you’ll become.
Shape your eyebrows
Well-shaped brows are flattering. Even if your brows are thin, they can still have shape. Just a little eyebrow powder or pencil adds more definition. As a guide, make the inner half of your brow thicker and the outer half finer. There is a natural high point near the middle. Check out a few glossy magazines to see how celebrities and models have theirs shaped.
Remove unwanted hair
Wax or shave your underarms and legs if you like a smooth finish. Next, tidy up your short and curlies by trimming long hair with scissors, and use wax strips or a depilatory cream to remove any hair that grows outside your bikini line. You’ll feel much sexier, even if no-one else can see what you’ve done.
