Handy tool belt

Mar 20 10:09am

What do you do with a belt that no longer quite makes the distance? Around your waist, that is.

Don't wait for the day it may fit again - use it for a project that redefines the term ‘tool belt'.

Here's how

1 Start with a piece of timber (or two, if a little on the thin side) that is the same length as the belt. If using two pieces, screw them together.

2 Place the belt 20-30mm short of one end of the timber and secure it with a broad flat-head screw, like a button head screw. If using a small-head screw, such as a self-tapping screw, add a washer, so it won't pull through the leather.

3 Form a loop to suit the size of the first tool. Try the tool to make sure you can slide it in and out easily, and that it holds firmly. Then screw down tightly on the other side of the loop. Repeat this process until you have enough loops for all the tools you want to hold.

4 As you form the loops, the belt will have shortened, leaving the ends as fixing points. Screw the timber base to a wall or the edge of a storage shelf.
