
1 Let the person guide you by how they reply to your questions. If they respond curtly when you ask about their condition, change the subject. Even though you may be eager to find out how they are, be patient and wait for them to tell you.

3 Make sure they know you don't expect thank-you cards or attention for your efforts. While they're in the midst of a health crisis, let them focus on their own issues.
4 If they're not on a restricted diet, make them something delicious. Home cooking beats hospital food.
5 Share a laugh. Your love, comfort and support, and the laughter you share together will always be treasured.
