Better You

Take the plunge - fitness tip!

Feb 08 03:34pm

When it comes to your health, there are many things you can do to stay fit. Swimming is a fantastic way to stay in shape.

Like riding bicycles, it's one of the great childhood pleasures, but it’s also a powerhouse workout for adults.

Fitness swimming has cardiovascular benefits and works all the major muscle groups, including your core muscles.

Perfect preparation

Swimming’s also easy on the joints. But if you’re planning to start swimming for exercise, book in for a bit of training and be sure to start slowly. Developing a good technique will increase the enjoyment and prevent shoulder, back and other injuries.

Get kitted up!

The equipment you need for swimming is minimal: bathers (for women, choose a swimsuit that has a high neckline so it won’t scoop up water); a swimming cap to protect your hair from chlorine and keep long hair off your face; and comfortable goggles for eye protection.

So go on, take the plunge!
