Colour makeovers made easy

Let's face it - there's nothing like walking into a freshly painted room to lift your spirits. A new lick of colour can instantly change the ambience of a room, create a sense of space or highlight your favourite piece of furniture. And best yet, it won't cost you bucket loads. Whether you're a novice or painting pro, a colour makeover couldn't be easier with British Paints.

A bright feature wall transformed this ordinary room into a luxurious guest quarter fit for mum.

So which colour suits your room? With hundreds to choose from in the British Paints range, you may find that you have more favorite colours than a class of school kids. To help you narrow the list keep in mind the purpose of the room and mood you wish to create, and then start testing out a few colours! Jump onto the Colour Makeovers Made Easy website and sample this season's latest colours online. You can also check out how other DIY'ers have creatively used colour in the before and after photo gallery. This is a great way to pick up a few ideas and see the amazing difference a little colour can make.

The dining room looked really drab but we didn't want to splash out on new furniture. A slick of colour was the easiest and cheapest way to give the room a fresh look.

Once you've chosen a colour online, you can print out a personalised checklist of materials (this will have the correct paint finish you require for each room) and also a step-by-step guide for the perfect paint job. Too easy! All that's left to do before you roll up your sleeves is measure your walls, take your checklist into Bunnings and a friendly team member can tell you how much paint you will need. And remember, you can pick up a sample pot for under $5 to test your colour at home. With a little preparation at the Colour Makeovers Made Easy website, you'll be admiring your new room before the weekend is out!

i agree with la.murray. (sept 04) the first one looked better before. a more natural colour might have worked better than the violet. The second looked much better after a new coat of paint, but only because it was daylight and the blinds were open.
