DIY skateboard ramp

Dec 12 08:50am

Rob is building a skateboard ramp to keep kids entertained for hours. A skateboard ramp is a project mum and dad can build on a weekend with lots of kid help too! Rob says "hey it's cheaper than building a pool." Remember that skateboard ramps can be dangerous so users must wear all the safety gear necessary - helmet, wrist, knee and elbow pads.

The skateboard ramp is made from 17mm and 7mm plywood and 70mm x 35mm pine which is easy to get from a timber supplier or hardware store. All the cutting of the plywood will be done with a jigsaw and the pine with a drop saw. Some cutting of a metal pipe may be necessary using an angle grinder or pipe cutter, or your hardware store could cut it to length for you.

I built one with help from www.buildhalfpipes.com
It cost me $29.99 for their DVD (which was a great help)
and me and my husband built it with my two sons in a weekend for about $900 (USD) This looks good too. Build safe!

I found www.buildaramp.com to be very helpful. I purchased the beginners guide which cost me $9.95. I also purchased the 4ft tall 8ft wide mini ramp plans for $19.95 that had very detailed measurements and even had a materials list and worksheet to help me find the best prices around my town.

Building quarters or a half pipe is one of the best things you can do for your kids. I built ours using plans from http://www.rickdahlen.com/hpplans/p lans.html. They are free and very good. Don't use metal pipe for the coping, use high pressure plastic water pipe. It costs $6 not $60 and is quieter.
