| Kids - here is a simple craft project to show off those photos from your summer holidays, or make a painting look extra good. |
Make sure the cardboard you use for the frame, stand and corrugated cardboard on the front are all the same colour, as it looks better.
What you need:
1 piece of corrugated cardboard, 18cm x 11 cm
1 piece thick cardboard, 19cm x 15cm (for the frame)
1 piece thick cardboard, 4cm x 11cm (for the stand)
Thin blue card, about 15cm x 15cm
A scrap of thin natural-coloured or white card (for the fish)
Water-based paints in white, black, red, yellow and gold
Plastic wrap
Craft glue
Masking tape
What to do:
1. Cut out the centre of the corrugated cardboard so it becomes a frame which is 3cm wide all around. Glue around both long edges and only one short edge of the frame and centre it on the larger piece of cardboard. Press down firmly.
2. Screw a small piece of plastic wrap into a ball and dab it lightly into some white paint. Blot off the excess paint on some newspaper and dab it on the blue card to form a splatter pattern. Allow the paint to dry. Repeat the process using black paint.
3. Draw one large and two small starfish and some seaweed onto the back of the blue card so the pencil lines don't show. Cut out the shapes and glue in position on the front of the frame.
4. To make the fish, repeat steps 2 and 3 using the small piece of natural or white card and colours suitable for fish. (We used red, yellow and gold.)
5. To make the stand, make a cut through half the thickness of the cardboard about 2cm from one end. Fold along the cut. Put glue on the 2cm area above the cut and place the stand on the back of the frame, about 4cm from the top, like in the picture below. Hold it in place with a couple of pieces of masking tape.
6. Slip your picture or photo under the unglued edge of the frame.
