Pests - Psyllids and lerps

Jan 23 12:00pm
Psyllids and lerps

Psyllids are tiny sap-sucking winged insects that feed on many native trees and shrubs, especially eucalypts. Some build scale-like shelters or lerps to protect them while they feed.

Others cause the plant to make gall-like structures for them. Some have no covering.
They can cause blotching on the leaves, leaf loss and dieback of branches.
Sooty mould feeds on the honeydew they secrete.

Control:
Small birds, assassin bugs, ladybirds, lacewings and wasps are their natural predators.

Spray young trees that have been severely attached with an approved chemical.

For large trees, a trunk injection may be needed.
