Tonight Dr Harry introduces us to one of the most well known breeds of pony….the Welsh Mountain Pony. With their reputation for intelligence; friendly personalities and good temperaments, they make popular show ponies or riding ponies for children.

As the name suggests, Welsh Mountain Ponies originated in Wales, in the harsh rugged landscapes of the hills. Known for their endurance, hardiness and quick wittedness, they were used by the hill farmers as mounts for shepherding, hunting, and for various domestic duties around the farm. They were also used extensively as a mine pony due to their compact, small size and body strength.
